Pilates
Pilates was created and developed in the 1920's by the physical trainer Joseph Pilates for the purpose of rehabilitation. He developed a system of exercises which were intended to strengthen the human mind and body. Some of the first people treated by Pilates were soldiers returning from war.
Mat based Pilates is a method of exercise which focuses on correcting posture and restoring normal movement patterns by focusing on correct alignment and quality of movement. Pilates also offers a relaxing, mind and body connection which is great for releasing stress.
Pilates is excellent for strengthening and stretching your core muscles which in turn helps to prevent lower back and other posture related injuries.
Jon Moyse is an accredited Pilates Instructor and has been teaching Pilates for over twenty years and has thousands of hours in teaching experience.
Classes are structured in to the following levels:
LEVEL 1: no previous experience of Pilates and has not been introduced to the principles of core stability, alignment and breathing technique
LEVEL 2: previous experience of Pilates and awareness of how to use core muscles, breathing technique and body alignment and has a grasp of the basic exercises
LEVEL 3: has a good understanding of the basic exercises and looking to progress to more complex movements
LEVEL 4: has the strength and flexibility to perform the classical exercises to a good standard
LEVEL 5: is able to perform the classical mat routine from start to finish to a high standard
